Wine Tasting and Wineries

Ok, ok, we have waaaay too much experience at local wine tasting.  We live right near the El Dorado County vineyards and the Shenandoah Valley vineyards in Amador County, California which we think produce the best tasting Zinfandels in the world.  For those Northern California wine "conny-sewers" who think Napa or Sonoma are the places to go for zinfandels, there is a local bumper sticker that about says it all, "El Dorado makes wine, Napa makes auto parts." (Referring to the Napa auto parts stores in our area)

Latcham Vineyards, our favorites are the Goldrush Red table wine which is a blend of Zinfandel, Merlot and Black Muscat, and their Zinfandels.  They also make an excellent Barbera.  Our favorite white wines from Latcham are their Chardonnay and Rhapsodia.  Don't miss having a glass of their select Port along with Margaret Latcham's world famous raspberry chocolate brownies.

Sobon Estates vineyards makes the best Orange Muscat dessert wine in the world in our humble opinion and their recipe for the Orange Muscat pound cake is pure heaven.  They also have a great museum right on site and picnic areas

Villa Toscano is another of our favorites.  Their Zinfandels, the Fox Creek, the Shenandoah Valley and the Jake's Vineyard are excellent.  They also make a Barbera that is one of the best anywhere.  This is one of the best looking wineries anywhere and is designed to look like a setting right out of Tuscany Italy.  It is simply beautiful.  Villa Toscano features an on site Bistro and shaded picnic areas.

DeRose Vineyards in Hollister, CA is another one of our favorites.  They have a world class red table wine named Hollywood Red named after one of Pat Derose's favorite cars, the Graham Hollywood.  They also make a trademark Negrette that is delicious as well as excellent zinfandels and Cabernet Francs.
