Brett H.  Riordan
Brett Riordan began working in the family business (then Overnight Engineering) at a very early age to earn extra "toy" money.  Brett is still involved today with new product evaluations, although his full time career is supervising the construction of new homes.  Brett has overseen the construction of the custom homes of several members of our Sacramento Kings basketball team who appreciated his attention to detail.

As part of his weekend motocrossing, he occasionally works the fun side of our company, Cameron Technologies where our motto is: "If you can't get sideways, airborne or upside down, why do it?"  Cameron Tech sells motorcycle and aircraft accessories.

What Brett's boss said:
"I am writing this letter to highly recommend Brett Riordan as a valued, respected, consistent, resourceful and very studious assistant superintendent.  Brett and I started our business relationship approximately 2 1/2 years ago when I was the Operations/Construction Manager at JTS Communities.  Additionally I also hired Brett at Ryland Homes where he successfully demonstrated multiple skills or talents in scheduling, customer service, and in the completion of assigned construction task.  Brett is hardworking, schedule or task orientated, diligent, and is always extremely consistent with his work.  In my opinion consistency is what truly characterizes a professional business or person in any industry.  Brett definitely posses that characteristic, and provided measurable consistency to JTS, Ryland, under my supervision.  He is a valued employee, and with additional experience, will be very successful in the construction industry.  Additionally because of his skills and talents Brett will soon be ready to continue his career growth in a Superintendent capacity."

Inventions

Brett Riordans Dinosaur
drawing template
The Dinosaur Template
Brett became innovative at a young age.  In Kindergarten, he went to his father Jim Riordan with an idea for a drawing template.  Brett had been watching his father do mechanical drawings on a drafting board using circle templates.  Brett's idea was to make an all-in-one drawing template for making dinosaur drawings, complete with trees, rocks, grass and several types of dinosaur.  Brett picked out the dinosaurs, and then he and dad arranged them so they fit on one 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper.  Jim Riordan then designed the injection molds and took the design to a mold maker.  A mold was made and the templates produced .  .  .  Riordanco had no sooner taken delivery of the first batch of Brett's templates than Tupperware introduced their dinosaur templates with great fanfare.  Brett's templates instantly looked like a "me too" product, providing early lessons about the importance of being first to market and how competition can spring out of nowhere at any time.  Ah well, at least he got to give away a bunch to his school mates for the next couple of years and became the only student inventor in his school with a finished product.

The Quik-Turn Industrial Vehicle
Brett was experimenting with building radio control race cars and developed what our patent attorney Tom Lampe called, "a brilliant solution for industrial vehicles which must maneuver in very tight and confined areas."

This vehicle wheel and steering configuration can be used on push carts, electric vehicles, hydraulic powered vehicles and gasoline or propane powered vehicles.

Hobbies

Motocross riding and racing.  Brett grew up on BMX bikes and switched to motorcycles before his feet were able to touch the ground.  Anxious parents would "catch" him at the end of a ride! When Brett began motocross racing, he took first overall in his very first race!

Brett is an expert sport bike rider and has had a Honda 70, Honda 90, Honda XL175, Honda XL350, a Honda CBR 600, two Honda CBR 900 RR's, a Suzuki TL 1000 and two Yamaha R1 "liter bike" road racers.  He was a member of the "Cap City Sportbike Crew," a group of riders who specialized in stunts and trick riding.  He is a master of wheelies and can truly go for miles at speeds up to 125 mph! He also does tricks such as "stoppies" which make mom turn blue.

Growing up in a flying family where his dad, grandfather and both granduncles were pilots made it only natural that Brett learn to fly.  He started flying tailwheel airplanes as a child on his dad's knee, just as his father Jim did when he was a child.  Brett learned how to fly gliders at Sky Sailing Airport in Fremont CA.  (now in Warner Springs, CA).  Bret Willat, a famous sailplane airshow performer and proprietor of Sky Sailing and the "Sailplane Magic Airshow" personally taught Brett how to fly gliders.  Brett then took helicopter lessons in a Robinson R-22 but chose to stick with fixed wings for having fun.  Besides, helicopters don't do good rolls! He earned his FAA student pilot certificate and soloed in a Champion Citabria aerobatic plane at 16 years old while still in high school.  He then soloed in a Cessna 150 and built time in a four place Cessna 172.  By the time he soloed he was already capable of performing all basic aerobatic maneuvers including multiple turn spins.  Brett went on to learn to fly ultralight aircraft, earned his USUA ultralight pilot's license and now has time in a CGS Hawk, Quicksilver MXL II Sport, Flightstar IISL and Flightstar Spyder.
